On 5 September 2022, we will be launching a Call for Pilot Cities. The Pilot Cities programme will test and implement innovative approaches to rapid decabornisation over a two-year period. The selection of pilots will cover all thematic areas contributing to climate neutrality to ensure systemic transformation. Selected pilot cities will receive funding and hands-on assistance from the NZC Consortium partners. City Needs, Drivers and Barriers towards Climate Neutrality

NetZeroCities has published the report City Needs, Drivers and Barriers Towards Climate Neutrality that compiles the experiences of a sample of 64 participating cities from 22 EU Member States and 3 Associated Countries in the fight for climate neutrality. The cities represented, cover a wide range of population sizes and are at different stages of the climate neutrality journey. Through ten focus group discussions with city representatives, the NZC team analysed the reasons for why a city would like to become climate neutral (drivers), the difficulties hindering the journey (barriers) and the components an enabling environment should have (needs). NetZeroCities at the High-level Conference on Civic Engagement in the EU Missions

On 21 March 2022 the NetZeroCities team was present at the High-level Conference on Civic Engagement in the EU Missions that took place at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council in Paris and online. The conference was dedicated to the newly launched EU Missions that aim to tackle some of the main challenges we are facing today: adapting to climate change, beating cancer, restoring oceans and waters, living in climate-neutral and smart cities, and ensuring soils’ health. NZC will be present at the High-level Event on Civic Engagement in the EU Missions

Over 180 applications from 25 countries received to join the NetZeroCities City Panels

NetZeroCities has received over 180 applications from 25 countries to join the City Panels that will help shape the tools and services cities will use in their journey towards climate neutrality. The project has received 106 applications for the Strategic Panel and 74 for the Practitioner Panel. The reasons expressed to participate in the city panels and the level of ambition and commitment to climate neutrality shown in the applications received are truly encouraging.
