Viable Cities


Viable Cities is a Swedish strategic innovation programme for climate neutral and sustainable cities. The programme collaborates with 23 Swedish municipalities and five government agencies to accelerate the climate transition in the initiative Climate Neutral Cities 2030 - and with the tool Climate City Contract 2030. It is jointly funded by Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas, and is coordinated by The Royal Institute of Technology, KTH.

FinEst Centre for Smart Cities


FinEst Centre for Smart Cities is an independent organisation under Tallinn University of Technology. The aim of the FinEst Centre for Smart Cities is to improve urban environments by testing new technologies and thereby grow into an internationally renowned research and development centre. FinEst Centre for Smart Cities was founded by Tallinn University of Technology, Aalto University, Forum Virium Helsinki and the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.

Metabolic Institute


Metabolic Institute is a non-profit think tank, working at the intersection of academic research and real-world experimentation. The team develops, tests, and shares open datasets and tools that build collective intelligence on critical sustainability issues. Metabolic Institute advises governments, businesses, and NGOs on how to adapt to a fast-changing global context, while creating disruptive solutions that can shift how the economy functions.



With a staff of 1400, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg, Germany is the largest solar energy research institute in Europe. Fraunhofer ISE is committed to promoting sustainable, economic, safe and socially just energy supply systems based on renewable energies. The Institute is a member of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization.



Since 1885, Union Internationale des Transports Publics (UITP) has been the international network for public transport authorities and operators, policy decision-makers, scientific institutes and the public transport supply and service industry. UITP, whose headquarters are in Brussels, is the global advocate of public transport and sustainable mobility, and the promoter of innovations in the sector.
